How to Reset a Skoda Key

I just received a notification that my infotainment device is low on battery and has to be replaced. It's not the first time, and the when I last visited an auto dealer, they replaced it for free, took 2 minutes and told me it would work again.

Switch ignition ON and lock the vehicle mechanically. Press the unlock button on the remote control 5 times at 1 second intervals. A short horn tone will sound.

EEPROM Method

It may take a while for a professional car locksmith to reprogram your key in the event that it ceases to function. In many instances the EEPROM is scanned to determine the unique code of the car. This is a risky procedure since there's a great chance that the data stored in the module will be corrupted. This is why it's best to trust an experienced locksmith.

An EEPROM (non-volatile) memory is utilized in a broad variety of electronic devices, including car keys. Then, you can read the EEPROM with a SOIC8 or micro pincers that are connected to the programmer. Once you have the data you can save the data to a file, and write it back to the EEPROM.



You can utilize a program like PonyProg to read the EEPROM data. Click on Read Device. The EEPROM dump appears as an array of hexadecimal characters. Three hex values stand out that are key_code (key_code), the key_count (key_count) and the V_ARG_ENABLED. It is necessary to change all other Hex values to 00 to "virginize" the chip. Once you have done this you can flash the chip to restore its functionality.

Ignition Method

This method uses another key to activate the car's system. It's not applicable to all vehicles, however it will be able to reset the key fob if it's not working properly or the battery is dying. It should also work if the buttons have been pushed hard (a frequent cause is people trying to press down the unlock button several times).

To apply this method to use this method, turn on the ignition and then leave it on. Then make sure that the driver's door is locked of the car with a second key. Remote Control Method

If you've just bought a remote control and it isn't working in your vehicle it could be because the seller didn't have programmed it to match your vehicle. It is possible that the battery terminals have come loose. They may appear to be loose and then soldered in. Soldering them back into place should bring back the full functionality. If you're not confident with this type of repair, consult an expert auto technician.

Switch ignition OFF, and lock the vehicle from the inside using the second key that's not in the same position (this resets the memory position 1). Enter channel "01". (Can be channel "21" on certain Audi models.) Insert the new keyfob into the driver's door and hit the unlock button twice in less than 5 seconds.

Repeat this process for up to 4 additional remote controls. Make sure to switch off the ignition when programming each remote. You should hear a tone each time you successfully program the remote.
